Correspondence and other papers, mainly for 1840-1865, including those of Blakey's junior law partners, and papers involving legal and business matters connected with his practice in Madison and Albemarle counties, Va. The collection is largely concerned with Virginia and Virginians, but contains many references to the American Revolution, the Mexican War, American politics and government, Confederate currency, pension claims, and general conditions and hardships in the Confederacy. Includes material on slavery, free blacks, the Virginia secession convention, the Confederate Army, Reconstruction and land matters (surveys, deeds, claims and litigation).
